Welcome to Geoje, the starting point of this meaningful journey along the beautiful South Coast of Korea.
I am Byeon Gwang-young, Mayor of Geoje City.
I sincerely congratulate the opening of the prestigious international cycling event, Tour de Gyeongnam 2026. I would also like to extend my heartfelt welcome and appreciation to all athletes, officials, and guests from Korea and around the world who have traveled to Geoje for this special occasion.
This year’s race begins in Geoje and continues through Tongyeong, Sacheon, Namhae, and Changwon in a five-day journey across five host cities. Along roads where the blue sea, beautiful coastline, and rich history and culture of the South Coast come together, athletes will showcase their passion and skills
in what promises to be a truly remarkable race.
In particular, this year’s event is held under the theme: “On Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s Road of Victory, Where Legends Begin.” May the spirit of Admiral Yi’s great victories inspire all athletes and spectators here today, and may the courage and wisdom of the past continue as our challenge and hope for the future.
Dear athletes,
The greatest achievement is not only setting records, but crossing the finish line safely without injury. As many athletes, vehicles, and cheering spectators will share the course together, even a small moment of carelessness may lead to a serious accident. I kindly ask all participants to follow the rules and help create a safe race through mutual respect and consideration.
Finally, I would like to thank Gyeongsangnam-do, the Korea Cycling Federation, the Gyeongnam Cycling Federation, and all officials and staff who worked hard to prepare this event.
I wish all athletes a safe and successful race. May this first step taken in Geoje be remembered as a truly inspiring moment in the history of world sports.
